This logistics unit, located in Heston, West London, was strategically situated near junction 3 of the M4 and just 1 mile from Heathrow Airport. The facility served as a hub for ambient and cold food storage, utilising an
automated conveyor system for distribution.
Following strip-out operations and partial building demolition, enhancements included the installation of dock levellers on the north elevation, extensive external modifications for loading docks, and the addition of high bay access doors on the east and west elevations. Further improvements comprised the incorporation of new roof lights, upgrades to the gutter, and enhancements to the siphonic drainage system. The existing PV system was not only retained but also underwent a thorough overhaul, ensuring its continued functionality.
To meet the evolving needs of the facility, additional underground SW drainage was introduced to serve new yard slabs and the new Dock leveller area. The M&E package incorporated the overhaul of the existing ventilation system, sprinkler system, and rewiring of internal/external electrical systems. Moreover, secondary steel was installed to form openings and support roller shutters. The internal warehouse slab underwent
refurbishment, including the removal of circa 6,000 holding down bolts remaining from previous mezzanine decks.
Additionally, fire protection measures were implemented, covering structural steel and featuring a full-height fire wall on one elevation. These comprehensive renovations aimed to optimise the unit’s infrastructure, facilitating seamless storage and distribution operations for enhanced efficiency.
